Oegstgeest, 17 November 2016
It is with great sadness that today I have to bring you the news of the death of our honourary chairman Egmond van Rijn. We knew this day would come but even so it was unexpected and unwelcome news.
Egmond was the chair of our club for over 20 years. He always enthusiastically represented our club and promoted it to anyone who would listen.
He will be dearly missed. His inimitable way of enthusing all fencers during the prizegiving ceremonies made even the ones who didn’t manage to get to the podium leave the tournament happy.
Next Monday we’ll take a moment to remember him.
This Saturday there will be a remembrance meeting at 11:00 uur in the Groene Kerkje, Haarlemmerstraatweg 4 te Oegstgeest.
A representative of our fencing club will say a few words. Fencers who wish to come to this meeting are requested to wear their fencing kit.
Afterwards one can extend their condolances to the family in La France, Rhijngeesterstraatweg 43 te Oegstgeest.
Our thoughts go out to his family.
Kindest regards,
Paul Edridge
chair ad interim
